Lazy Beaver Canoe and Kayak Race

9:00 AM on-site registration; race begins at 10:00 AM: The 23rd Annual Lazy Beaver Canoe and Kayak Race is tentatively set to be held on Saturday, July 29th, starting in LaValle and ending in Reedsburg. The Baraboo River has been exceptionally low this summer, and an alternate race date of August 26th is set if low water would create paddling problems in shallow areas.

While the one major jam on the river between Douglas Landing (the Lake Redstone outlet) and Reedsburg was cleared on Saturday, June 24th, three major jams remain. Plans are underway to clear those when the water gets high enough to get a boat down to the jams.

Entry forms for the Lazy Beaver Canoe and Kayak Race are available at the Reedsburg Area Chamber of Commerce office and the Kiwanis Facebook page. You can also register online at friendsoftheboo.org. The cost to participate is $20.00 / paddler through July 15, 2023; the registration fee is $25.00 / paddler after that date. Proceeds from the Lazy Beaver race go toward river improvement projects.
